Elliot Minor: The fast facts

Published Sunday, Apr 6 2008, 06:00 BST | By Simon Reynolds | 3 comments
Melding Fall Out Boy-style rock with classical orchestration, Elliot Minor are planning to conquer the charts with their eponymous debut album. With two top 20 hits under their belt already, they've made a pretty nifty start. But who on earth are 'The Minor', as absolutely no-one calls them? After having a good old natter with frontman Alex Davies, we've distilled their very essence into five bite-sized factual(ish) nuggets. Go ahead and gorge yourselves:

They think new single 'Parallel Worlds' is a proper anthem.
Describing it as one of their strongest songs, Elliot Minor are giving 'Worlds' a high-profile re-release to make sure it's a hit. "The fans can sing every word of it and radio wanted a "reactive" track so we gave them one," Alex says.

They aren't worried that touring with McFly damaged their rock star cred.
"I am beginning to wonder what cred is and why England in particular holds back bands because of the media's need to pigeon-hole you," Alex says. "The fans don't seem to mind and plenty of guys who mosh at our shows have said, 'Good on you, ignore that s***'!'"

They're not the slightest bit averse to classical music.
In fact, they call classical music "a major influence" because "the instrumentation and arrangements you can do [with it] are limitless". Perhaps a collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra is in order?

They want to play bigger venues, as long as they aren't too big.
"I would love to do some arena shows, but even more than that a theatre tour would be amazing," Alex explains.

They've re-jigged some of the old fan favourites for their album.
In fact, the band "can't wait for people to hear 'Broken Minor' or 'Silently' or the final version of 'Time After Time'". (Sound readers note, that last one has nothing to do with Cyndi Lauper!) "People think they have the album from downloading, but they don't, they have the demos," says Alex.

'Parallel Worlds' is released on April 7. Elliot Minor's self-titled debut album follows on April 14.
