Wow, this is crap. They've been drinking too much soy.
rick winter on May 19th, 2008
Sounds like a Phil Collins song from the eighties being sung badly by Bob Geldoff, what dreadfull vocals, very poor.
Andy, Malacca (Malaysia) on May 14th, 2008
Maybe we can't judge the whole album through one song, but "Violet Hill" just doesn't sound like Coldplay anymore. Disappointed :(

song is terrible, very boring, emo sounding, dull, and very forgettable. definitely not worth the wait.. crap single
Bianca, London on May 3rd, 2008
I was expecting so much more. But they have disappointed me. Unless the album is absolutely amazing I doubt I will even buy it.
Jared - Texas on May 2nd, 2008
I really like the song. Initially, I thought it was nothing more than good, but I've listened to it a few more times and am becoming more and more pleased with it. It sounds like their old stuff in Martin's voice, but that's about it. I think the style is different from the rest of their albums. In short, I think it's a great song and am looking forward to the album.

I freaking love it! I can't wait for the album!

AshleyG, Southampton on May 1st, 2008
Took a few plays to grow on me but it is an excellent song.
Gareth, Surrey on May 1st, 2008
I don't normally like Coldplay but I really love this new song.

Good song . Much darker than the others
Wayne. Fife on May 1st, 2008
I actually don't like it that much, it's not something i would listen to and i feel they could have released a better song than that.
Sharmin, London on May 1st, 2008
for all those who couldn't get it coz of ursername/password issues, you have to copy and paste all the link instead of clicking it, the same thing happened to me! the link misses out *47 so make sure that is added at the end! i think the new song is awesome! and can't wait til the album, it comes out on my birthday yay!

Lyrics R fantastic, a real Coldplay tune as can be interpreted in many ways. Roll on 13th June!

Dont believe the hype, this is not a good song. If you are a big coldplay fan, the song is not so drastically different to make you switch it off - but from a neutral music lovers point of view it is pretty bland. Boring verse followed by a potentially interesting chorus that unfortunatley is only sung once before returning to the verse again. Repeat and then onto an embarrassing guitar solo by anyones standards. The end - just Martin and a piano - strips the song down and it actually sounds quite good, like a hidden track or b-side but nothing special. Coldplay fans will love it - but as with most bands, their hardcore following will love any old rubbish they put out. Coldplay haters will continue to hate , and will have good ammo for their rants. Nuetral music fans will be bored and soon forget the song.
Jay Wood, Petersfield on May 1st, 2008
Superbly written song, slightly surprising and perhaps not the greatest mix and production. Great that they made it available for free... thank you Coldplay...
Skesel, London on May 1st, 2008
Not as brilliant as I anticipated but still a good tune.
steve on May 1st, 2008

chris, south shields on May 1st, 2008
terrible, a massive disappointment.
Andy on May 1st, 2008
haha, i love how the usual dull coldplay critics come out of the bag with their tired and lazy critiques. for coldplay, it's very different sounding, and very fresh compared to some of the x&y stuff. excellent choice of first single
Rob Francis, Basingstoke on May 1st, 2008
Very different, and it's rather good. Although I have a funny feeling that it will get boring the more times I hear it.
alesha, peterborough on April 30th, 2008
love it!! gets better when u play it more... sounds like coldplay alrite :)
Sane Man, Cambridge on April 30th, 2008
Boring, plodding and dire.
Sumit Arora - Bahrain on April 30th, 2008
Well, it is a pretty interesting song. Initially the song does not have the Coldplay element, but as the songs progresses, it definitely does. It has shades of of Floyd as well. Whatever, Coldplay is evergreen. Good Going guys! I am breathless in anticipation for the album. Cheers!
shaun worthing on April 30th, 2008
its good musicians should stay out of polotics though
Paul McCool, Hampshire on April 30th, 2008
To Bruce in London: I got that. Instead of clicking on the link they email you, paste it into your browser. That'll bypass the password request. Don't know why. It just did. Bit of a rubbish set up really, but there you are. Good luck.
Nialli, London on April 30th, 2008
Ever heard the Genesis track "That's All" from the eighties? Same tune. Normally a Coldplay fan, but this was pretty awful and a big disappointment.
Gabriel, Belfast on April 30th, 2008
It is nothing very surprising. Sounds like Coldplay (trying to sound like Radiohead) and is not very good. But it isn't bad. And the price is right.
Craig, Port Talbot on April 30th, 2008
Really like this new direction - was a bit sceptical when I heard about the influences that the band were using but I instantly liked the sound of this - has a really cool vibe about it, I could almost imagine the Beatles bringing out something like this had they been around today? Good single - can't wait for the album!
Bruce in London on April 30th, 2008
I've tried several times today to download it, but the site always asks for a user name and password. I have no opinion about the music since I can't hear it, but I'm irritated by the waste of time.
allan, London on April 29th, 2008
Sounds like Oasis ripping off the beatles. I heard it once, im not eager to hear it again. Im sure the more it's forced on me, the more i wont mind it. Its not instant, which is a failure for a band that get so much kudos. However, they have done enough to keep the machine rolling.
G Brighton on April 29th, 2008
Its good. Nothing more, nothing less. A bit underwhelming really. And I disagree that X&Y didnt turn them into stadium conqueres. 2 words: FIX YOU!!
Mark in Kendal on April 29th, 2008
One word.....no
Phillip, London on April 29th, 2008
Tribal drums? There is none of that my friend, nice song, but no tribal drums (i'm a percussionist). We'll have to wait for some more songs from them to be able to really make a judgement although at first glance it's not bad, nothing amazing.
Clyde, London on April 29th, 2008
ZZzzzzZZZZzzzZZZz, the usual cold play
Paul McCool, Hampshire on April 29th, 2008
Of course it's polished and powerful. Bit Floyd-esque perhaps? It'll be on every radio playlist in the country and the album will be number one. But is it any good? Not really. But thanks for the gift anyway, boys. Chris, love to Gwynnie and Apple.
