A Scottish man who attacked a McDonald's manager for not serving him a main meal at breakfast time has pleaded guilty to assault.

20-year-old Andrew Hamish Deans was on holiday in Australia when he entered the McDonald's store with two friends at 5am. He demanded a main menu meal and became enraged when he was told that only breakfast items were being served.

After abusing staff, Deans spoke to a manager and threw a chip-and-pin machine at his head, leaving him with a cut.

Magistrate Joe Pinder said workers at the fast food chain had enough difficulty dealing with drunk people without the additional worry of being assaulted.

Deans was fined AU $500 (£220).
