Satellite 'beams messages to alien life'

A satellite has beamed 501 message from Earth in the hope of receiving a reply from intelligent alien life.
The 'Message From Earth' competition asked users of social network site Bebo to submit their messages to extra-terrestrials.
The transmission originates from the RT-70 radar telescope and will travel 120 trillion miles to the recently-discovered planet Gliese 581c. Any reply will take more than 40 years to come back.
The "digital time capsule" includes messages from celebs such as Buzz Aldrin, Sir Patrick Moore, McFly, Ne-Yo, Basshunter and the Jonas Brothers, as well as photographs of landmarks like the London Eye.
Seth Shostak, a Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence Institute astronomer, told the BBC: "If anybody's out there and they find that signal, they at least know it that, in the direction of that star system over there, there must be a planet with some pretty clever things on it."
