A spokesman for Ceredigion Council confirmed to the Daily Mail that the spread has been banned from all 51 of its primary school breakfast clubs.
"The food items are based on guidance received from the Welsh Assembly Government," he said.
"Breakfast clubs are intended to improve the health and concentration of children. Anything served must be healthy and nutritionally balanced. Marmite is not included on the list of items as it does include a high level of salt."
A spokesman for Marmite manufacturer Unilever said the spread does contain salt but only a small amount is required to "make toast tasty for children".
One mother said her kids love the spread and described the decision as "the nanny state going too far".
