Voodoo dolls of French President Nicholas Sarkozy are to remain on sale, a Paris court has ruled.

The dolls, which are covered in quotes made by the head of state, come with pins and a set of instructions.

Sarkozy's lawyer last week announced his intention to sue makers K&B, saying the politician holds "exclusive and absolute rights" over his image.

However, judges ruled that the doll was meant to be satirical and was "within the authorised limits of free expression and the right to humour".

They added that while inciting people to put pins in the dolls might be considered distasteful to some, it was not their role to decide what is and is not good taste.
