A library book has been returned to a school in Oklahoma, US after being missing for 61 years.
Martha McCabe Jarrett discovered Holland Hall School's copy of New Word Analysis: Or School Etymology of English Derivative Words as she cleaned out her house in Ohio. She had taken the book home with her in 1947.
Jarrett decided to return the book with a $250 cheque to cover her overdue fees, providing a surprise for current librarian Betty Niver.
"It was just there, with the things I enjoy and my kids don't," Jarrett told The Associated Press.
"I don't know if it was something the library was getting rid of, or my Latin teacher had given me, or if I just kept it," she continued. "I sent it back just because I value the education I got at that school."
A spokesperson for the school said that the $250 payment could be put towards student scholarships as there is currently "no specific overdue book fund" in place.
