Armenian and Greek Orthodox monks have clashed at the site of Jesus's burial in Jerusalem.

The brawl started at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, thought to be the site of Jesus's crucifixion, burial and resurrection, when Greek monks objected to a procession of Armenian clergymen.

The Greeks believed that they needed to have one of their own monks in the procession or they would lose claim of the Edicule - the ancient structure built on Jesus's tomb - to the Armenians.

"We were keeping resistance so that the procession could not pass through... and establish a right that they don't have," said one Greek Orthodox monk.

Riot police intervened to break up the fight and subsequently arrested two clergymen.
