Grieving parrot put on Prozac
Published Thursday, Nov 20 2008, 13:04 GMT | By Simon Reynolds
A depressed parrot has been prescribed Prozac following the death of his owner.
African Grey parrot Fred's owner George Dance passed away nine months ago, prompting the tropical bird to bite off all his neck feathers and continually bob his head up and down.
Fred is now on a twice-a-day dose of Clomicalm, a version of the antidepressant suitable for birds.
Dance's widow Helen told The Sun: "He has been in quite a state since my husband died. Fred was very close to George and became depressed."
