Pizza Hut delivery man Erick Lopez Devictoria threw the hot takeaway food at a gunman when he was confronted at 1pm in the city of Miramar.
Devictoria's manoeuvre gave him enough time to run away from the gunman and his accomplices, according to Florida's Sun-Sentinel. At least one shot was fired as he escaped.
Police have since caught three teenage suspects, who face charges of armed robbery.
