Schoolgirl becomes radio agony aunt

Published Friday, Apr 3 2009, 06:14 BST | By Sarah Rollo
A schoolgirl has been given her own radio slot to dish relationship advice to adults.

Elaina Smith, 7, was offered the job on Mercia FM's breakfast show after she called the station to give her opinion to a woman who wanted to abandon her boyfriend.

Show bosses were impressed when Elaina told the caller to go bowling with friends and drink a mug of milk. She has since given advice ranging from dealing with relationship breakdowns to coping with smelly brothers.

Elaina, from Coventry, said: "I used to want to be a vet when I was younger, but now I want to be on the radio. I really enjoy it and tell my friends about it at school. I say whatever comes into my head and people like what I say."

Show host Andy Goulding said that the station has been inundated with questions since the youngster joined the team.
