Stoned wallabies 'causing crop circles'

Wallabies have been blamed for making crop circles in poppy fields on the Australian island of Tasmania.

The marsupials are reportedly upsetting farmers when they become intoxicated after eating the flowers.

Tasmanian attorney general Lara Giddings said: "We have a problem with wallabies entering poppy fields, getting as high as a kite and going around in circles.

"Then they crash. We see crop circles in the poppy industry from wallabies that are high."

Tasmania is a key producer of legally-grown opium poppies used to manufacture pharmaceuticals including morphine and codeine.
