Blackpool launches Met Office rival

Blackpool tourism chiefs have launched their own weather forecasts amid fears that inaccurate Met Office predictions are putting off potential visitors.

Town officials have accused the forecasters of being too pessimistic in their weather reports, resulting in the seaside resort losing out on tourism cash.

The unofficial broadcasts, now available on a dedicated YouTube channel, show local staff offering their own predictions to holidaymakers.

Helen France, Blackpool's tourism boss, told the Daily Express: "Places like Blackpool are often sunny when places close by are overcast. Our daily weather webcast will give people the chance to see how nice the weather is before coming for a day out."

A Met Office spokesman insisted: "We do the best we can and are about 85% accurate. Trying to forecast for something as specific as Blackpool Pleasure Beach with even our state-of-the-art technology is difficult and is a long way off."
