A woman is looking for a cure after suffering from hiccups from six years.

Amanda Weston, a 41-year-old cleaner from Hull, has regular 20-minute bursts of the condition six times a day, The Mirror reports.

Weston said: "I have no idea what started it all off. It went on for a week and then a month - it was relentless, but my GP said there was nothing he could do, unless they were 24 hours a day.

"He said it was very rare but unless I was hiccupping in my sleep I'd have to put up with it. It's like a routine. The hiccups get on my nerves, but at least everyone knows who I am."

She added: "I just want someone to find out what is causing it and, hopefully, cure me."

Earlier this year, 25-year-old Lincoln-based punk singer Christopher Sands revealed that he would undergo stomach surgery after hiccuping for two years.
