A man has survived a plummet into a lagoon after his foot came loose from a bungee line during a jump.

Cambridge graduate Rishi Baveja fell 165 feet into the water at 80mph but his life was saved as his chest took the main impact of the force, the Daily Mail reports.

Baveja said: "All the doctors were staggered that I lived. I'm very lucky. If I had landed head first I would be brain damaged or dead.

"I knew the jump would be scary but I didn't think it was dangerous. I had a long phone conversation with my mum telling her it was safe."

He added: "She only believed me when I told her that the website of the jump centre claimed it had a 100% safety record. It still says that. I didn't need to do that jump. I wish I hadn't."

Baveja suffered a ruptured spleen, collapsed lungs and torn liver in the incident at Kathu, Thailand and had to spend a month in a Bangkok hospital before he could return to his home near Wakefield in West Yorkshire.
