The event is being held in the seaside town of Hastings, with a first prize of £1,000.
In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, British reigning world champion Tim Davies said: "When you come here you know it's serious. You are up against the best and there's no quarter given."
The 47-year-old took up the sport seriously ten years ago, but is currently struggling with a slipped disc.
He commented: "If the back holds up I'm in with a chance, but the conditions are really difficult."
Tournament organiser David Hartley said that playing well is not easy.
He stated: "There's a tremendous amount of skill in it. It might be called crazy, but it's no joke when you are out there today."
