German politician Franz Muentefering has eaten a plate of locusts during a school seminar about the ongoing financial crisis.
In 2005, the outgoing chairman of the centre-left Social Democrats compared unprincipled private equity firms to the swarming phase of short-horned grasshoppers, Reuters reports.
Muentefering said: "If you could solve the problem with the locusts like that, I'd sign right up for it. They're really not that bad. Please, help yourselves - the locusts must go!"
Teacher Martin Walter added: "He tucked in without any hesitation."
