The unnamed man was visible on the Sky Sports pictures as Chelsea player Salomon Kalou prepared to be substituted on during his team's 1-0 home victory.
The clip has since been played on the news and also featured on YouTube.
In an after-match phone-in on Five Live, host DJ Spoony asked: "Why has he got a toothbrush in the stadium? And more importantly, why is he brushing his teeth in the stadium?"
Co-presenter Gabriele Marcotti replied: "Dental hygiene. Every time you eat something, you should brush your teeth afterwards. You were taught that, right? You should be flossing too, I would add."
According to the Daily Mail, the man supposedly rang into the show to explain that he had not had time to clean his teeth before the match.
He added that he wore sunglasses because his ex-girlfriend was at the match and he is "a ladies' man".
