Trista Joy Lathern also told friends and co-workers that she had breast cancer and let them raise $10,000 [£6,000], which she then spent on augmentation surgery, the Waco Tribune-Herald reports.
Phyllis Hubbard, spokeswoman for Susan G. Komen for the Cure in Waco said: "I hope that people will just investigate what they are giving to. Maybe this incident will be a red flag so they will do a little more investigating to see where their money and support are going to.
"It broke my heart when I read about [Lathern]. It made me upset that someone would go to such extremes when all that money could have helped someone who really needed it."
Court papers revealed that Lathern told sheriff's office investigator James Pack about the deception and also shaved her head to mimic the effects of chemotherapy.
Her husband William, with whom she has two sons, said that he had been induced to marry this year "by fraud". He added that he was not aware that his wife did not have cancer at the time of their marriage.
