The Paris contest features 96 runners, each of whom hopes to win €3,000 (£2,680) worth of shoes if they outpace the rest while competing on heels of at least 8cm in height, AFP reports.
Caroline Gentien, of shoe-selling site Sarenza, said: "The finalists are training very seriously. Walking on heels is no piece of cake.
"We came up with the idea just two years ago, and this year 400 candidates signed up for the regional races."
Hopefuls will include last year's team Parle A Mon Pied (Talk To My Foot), consisting of a journalist, lawyer and psychologist.
