A cycle lane which is so short it takes just a second to cross has been branded a complete waste of taxpayers money, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Bemused cyclists said that the 8ft-long red and white track in Cardiff is completely pointless.

Kevin Hughes, 47, said he couldn't believe his eyes when the £2,000 road marking appeared.

"Obviously nobody could cycle in it because it is so small. You just have time to get in the saddle before getting off again," he said.

Cardiff Council claimed that it will help riders safely navigate a turn on a new road layout, however, chief executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance Matthew Elliott said that the initiative is an example of the waste that "raises the hackles of taxpayers".
