The German-built missile disappeared off the naval base of Tsoying in southern Taiwain after it came loose from a cable connecting it to a vessel last week, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reports.
Director of the navy's fleet command Wen Cheng-kuo said: "We have budgeted 30,000 Taiwan dollars (£630) as a kind of compensation since it might damage the fishing net during the salvaging process."
The navy reportedly lost a torpedo with 182kg of explosives in 2003 when it missed its target. It was later found on the north-eastern shore of the country.
