Vehicles, mostly lorries heading towards Beijing, are now stuck in a 62-mile queue.
BBC News reports that that the severity of the jam escalated because of roadworks and breakdowns.
The roadworks are under way to ease congestion and repair damage caused by an increase in cargo lorries. They are not expected to be completed until sometime next month.
Drivers stuck on the road have complained that locals are over-charging them for food and drink. Thieves have also targeted the vehicles, with reports of petrol being siphoned off as the owners sleep.
