A man who tried to kill a spider in his bathroom on Monday was left with burns on his arms, legs and face after sparking a fireball during the incident.

Christopher Robinson, 28, chased the creature behind the toilet when alerted to it by his wife Janine, Metro reports.

The man sprayed a can of deodorant at the arachnid and then used a lighter to get a closer look because the lightbulb was allegedly broken in the bathroom of the Clacton-on-Sea home.

Christopher said: "There was just this big puff of flame which came right back at me. It burned my hands and my legs and singed my hair.

"Luckily, I was wearing my boxer shorts so I did not get burned in a more sensitive area. I feel a bit of a fool. It was like something Del Boy would do in Only Fools and Horses."

The explosion reportedly scorched the bathroom, blew Christopher into his hallway and lifted the hatch on the house's loft

A representative for Essex fire service said: "We're not entirely sure whether the spider got away or not - but there was no sign of it."
