The 16-year-old singer has over five million followers, and appears as a regular trending topic on the site. The high demand in activity means that Bieber-related traffic makes up a significant proportion of Twitter's resources.
Dustin Curtis, a designer for the site, recently tweeted: "At any moment, Justin Bieber uses 3% of our infrastructure. Racks of servers are dedicated to him."
He later added that the three things that will reliably drive up Twitter traffic are "(a) bashing airlines, (b) bashing Comic Sans, (c) Justin Bieber".
Curtis has confirmed that the tweet was not a joke and that the information was given to him by another Twitter employee. He later admitted that "most of the popular users on Twitter have dedicated servers for their accounts".
