Teen burglar 'kills witness goldfish'

A teenager who allegedly burgled an apartment reportedly killed three goldfish who were "witnesses" to the crime.

The unnamed 16-year-old from Arlington Heights is believed to have killed the three fish by pouring ketchup, mustard, hot sauce and spices into their tank, Trib Local reports.

According to the police, the burglar told his two friends, one aged 15 from Arlington Heights and a 16-year-old from Des Plaines: "We can't let them live, they're witnesses."

Sgt. Mike Hernandez said: "He wasn't remorseful. It was disturbing. Certainly something they didn't need to do."

The 16-year-old has been charged with burglary and cruelty to animals. His two friends have also been charged with burglary.
