The unusual pitch invader appeared before a crowd of 82,000 spectators just before kick-off.
BBC One commentator John Inverdale said: "It's been around all day, and they've been chasing it around. We think it's called Grant. It actually went up into our commentary position, so we called it 'the fox in the box'."
As the fox continued to run around the pitch, Inverdale then joked: "I have to tell you actually, it's [co-commentator] Andy Nicol's birthday today, and he was rather hoping it would be Samantha Fox, but it's not!"
The animal was eventually chased away by officials, disappearing over empty seats in the stands. England later won the match 22-16.
