The Sun reports that the football club is hated by 26% of the 1,000 people quizzed for an Online Opinions survey.
The football team's power and success over the past two decades was blamed for their high placing in the vote.
Fans on Manchester United forum RedCafe brushed off the ranking. One stated, "success breeds contempt" while another added, "Good. Shows we are doing something right".
One fan also commented: "To be fair, whilst United are run by the Glazers... I hate the 'company' and all things relating to the business/non-playing side of the club."
Manchester United is reportedly followed by low-budget airline Ryanair with 23% and utilities firm British Gas on 22%.
Next was McDonald's with 19% and banks RBS and Lloyds TSB with 17% and 16% respectively.
Overall, banking was named the most hated sector, followed by utilities and petrol companies.
