Arsenal footballer Jens Lehmann is reportedly suing fellow goalkeeper Tm Wiese for insulting him.

Lehmann had criticised the Werder Bremen goalie while commentating in their game against Tottenham Hotspur last year, prompting Wiese to tell Bild that he should "go on The Muppet Show".

Wiese added: "That man should be on a couch. Maybe someone would be able to help him there. Commit him - best to an asylum."

According to The AP, Lehmann has filed a lawsuit asking for more than $28,000 (£17,250) for the supposed violation of his "personal rights". The case will reportedly be heard in a court in Munich, Germany on Thursday.

Lehmann was Arsenal's goalkeeper from 2003 to 2008 and was part of the unbeaten side which won the Premier League in 2004. He moved to VfB Stuttgart in 2008 and retired in 2010, but returned to Arsenal on a rolling contract last month as a result of their injury crisis.

In 2009, Lehmann seemingly urinated behind his goal during Stuttgart's 3-1 over Unirea Urziceni in the Champion's League.

Last year, Lehmann played alongside Mike Myers, Woody Harrelson, Gordon Ramsay, Damian Lewis and others in the annual Soccer Aid match.
