Jenson Button drives McLaren F1 car on Manchester streets: Video
Many of us won't get to see a Formula 1 car up close, but for those in Manchester on Monday, they got to see the real thing as Jenson Button hit speeds of more than 100mph in the city centre.
The 2009 world champion was parading his McLaren Mercedes F1 car at Deansgate to support a fightback campaign after the recent riots.
Button told the Manchester Evening News: "Seeing everyone out there - their spirits are pretty high, which is good to see, and hopefully this will help the road to recovery.
"The atmosphere was brilliant. It was raining but they were all stood there really enjoying themselves... I want to say a big thank you to Manchester for letting us have this event."
Button managed third place during the F1 race at Spa in Belgium the previous day, having started from 13th on the grid.
