Woman dumps trash in mayor's office over collection mix-up

An American woman frustrated by a rubbish-collection mix-up has dumped her refuse in the local mayor's office.

Ohio resident Janice Shanks presented two bags full of garbage to Portsmouth mayor David Malone on Friday, the city's Daily Times reports.

She explained that she took exception to changes in the collection schedule over the Labour Day holiday earlier this month.

"I don't know what to do. It's overflowing," she complained. "We're gonna be in a real pickle. It was the holiday weekend and all of our grandkids were there and our children, so I had more than normal."

Malone graciously accepted Shanks's excess waste, admitting that his plan to reduce the trash collection service to avoid paying overtime had caused "confusion".

He also confirmed that certain areas had deliberately been skipped as part of the scheme.
