Woman gets golf cart drink-driving fine

A woman in Sweden has been fined for driving a golf cart while under the influence.

The 62-year-old from Ystad had taken the vehicle for a ride around her local golf course and was reported to the police by golfers playing there, The Local reports.

Lars-Åke Magnusson of the Malmö police told Golf.se: "I'm not sure everybody is aware that the rules for driving a golf cart are as strict as those for regular cars.

"It's a common misconception. Basically you can get caught if you're drunk and are driving a golf cart in your own living room."

The woman, who admitted in court that she had been at a party the night before and drunk four shots of whisky on the course, had a blood alcohol level of 1.18 permille. The legal limit in Sweden is 0.2 permille.

The low speed and enclosed course meant that the woman was not charged with aggravated driving offences.

In 2009, a British man was fined after being found guilty of drink-driving his mobility scooter on the A140 in Norfolk.
