Michael Zuk bid on the item by phone, during an auction in Stockport of a collection of rock memorabilia owned by former Creation Records boss Alan McGee.
The tooth was originally given by Lennon to his housekeeper Dot Jarlett during the 1960s as a souvenir for her daughter.
"Once I heard it was up for sale I had to have it," Zuk told BBC News. "Some people will think it's gross, others will be fascinated by it."
Zuk, who has penned a book about celebrities' teeth, plans to show off the famous tooth at his dental surgery.
