Cardinal Gianfranco Ravisi, the Vatican's top cultural official, said that they need to adapt to the modern tech-savvy world and should not be afraid of using the "scandal" within the Bible as part of their sermons.
"The advent of televised and computerised information requires us to be compelling and trenchant, to cut to the heart of the matter, resort to narratives and colour," Ravisi said, according to AFP.
Ravisi also complained that today's preaching is now "so dull and vapid that it had become quite meaningless".
The cardinal even praised the use of Twitter by suggesting that it could enable the church to "deliver something in a flash, something primal".
