A study has revealed that over one million Britons have had to do the 'walk of shame' following an office Christmas party.

A YouGov research study commissioned by the Hotels.com mobile app has shown that 1,070,518 people have returned to work the next day wearing the same clothes as the night before.

The statistics revealed that the nation are on average 'Older Indulgers', with 45 to 54-year-old employees twice as likely to complete the 'walk of shame' as the national average. 750,000 people have also reportedly slept in the office overnight after a Christmas party.

One in six people who have been to an office Christmas party have failed to return home afterwards according to the survey, and have chosen to book a late hotel for the night, with or without a fellow worker.

Hotel.com's Alison Couper said: "In the current economic climate it's no surprise that so many of us intend to let our hair down at the work Christmas party."

"To sleep off the excitement of the night before and tackle the 'morning after' in the office, the Hotels.com mobile app is ideal for helping you find your nearest hotel quickly and easily - the perfect app for a speedy getaway when you need it most."
