Britain is a nation of overgrown schoolchildren, as the widespread giggling in the office (and on Twitter) proved this afternoon.
Yep - a contestant named Mark on Countdown won six points with the expletive "W**KER".
Despite the word being bleeped out of the broadcast, new show host Nick Hewer had to accept it, appearing as it does in the dictionary.
Back in 2010, two contestants wimped out on an easy six when confronted with the letters U, D, F, C, K, E as part of their nine. Our chap today put points above prudishness!
It all shows how far we've come. Way back in the misty times of 1991 and the reign of Richard Whiteley, Gino Corr and Lawrence Pearse famously offered "a pair of w**kers" for seven points apiece.
That clip wasn't aired on the show at the time, but the footage survives and is a quiz show outtake classic.
Since then, the naughty word for self-love has popped up more than a few times, including in Des O'Connor's tenure and more recently on Jeff Stelling's three-year hosting stint, which you can relive below.
