Megaupload: 'The Mega Song' - video

The closedown of filesharing service Megaupload by US officials yesterday sparked a wave across the internet.

Unlike the Swedish Pirate Bay, the site was ostensibly legitimate, making the shutdown and arrest of Kim Dotcom (formerly Kim Schmitz) and three others all the more controversial.

Last December, the service even hooked up with a load of proper stars (everyone from Chris Brown and Alicia Keys to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West) to make the following song and video to promote the site. Leaving all politics aside, as far as kitsch corporate virals go, we like it!



After the song went live, it was swiftly removed on the request of Universal Music Group, but was later returned after Megaupload insisted that it had "signed agreements with every featured artist for this campaign".

In response to yesterday's closedown, collective Anonymous has coordinated a distributed denial-of-service attack (DDOS) operation against several sites related to the government and entertainment industry.
