Scorpion kick wins game for Bolivian football team - video

To score a perfectly executed volley can be one of the sweetest moments of a footballer's career.

We've seen some great volley goals over the years, including Wayne Rooney against Manchester City, and Zinedine Zidane in the 2001 Champions League final.

However, you don't see a so-called 'scorpion' volley breaking the back of the net too often, so it is always worth celebrating when it is pulled off.

Erlan Mealla kicked off the Bolivian football league with a brilliant winner for his team Nacional Potosi, ironically against a team called The Strongest.



The player is seen powerfully backheeling the ball that is delivered behind him to score the goal 20 yards out.

Possibly the strangest 'scorpion' kick was actually an own goal by Festus Baise in the Hong Kong league last year.

The 'scorpion' kick is perhaps best known for its unexpected use by goalkeeper Rene Higuita against England during a friendly in 1995.
