Judge falls asleep during Swedish trial

The trial in Gothenburg saw the presiding judge taking a nap, according to both the defence and prosecution teams.
"It is a very important aspect of the legal process that the person trying the district court decision is present," prosecutor Margareta Esplund told TV4.
The judge is said to have dismissed the claims that he was asleep during the trial, but admitted that he is no longer able to be involved in the case.
Esplund rejected the judge's comments, saying: "Normally when a person falls asleep there are certain indications of this - you start by closing your eyes and then the head falls forward, followed by jerking movements as you pull yourself together."
The judge added that the reason behind his non-involvement with the retrial was because of a conflict of interest, rather than an admission of sleeping in court.
