Trevor Gladston Jr, 39, had come away empty-handed when the cashier he threatened at gunpoint was undeterred due to the bullet-resistant glass between them, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Gladston Jr then took a cab to his vehicle, but had no money on him to pay the fare.
When he got out of the taxi, the cab driver suspected he wouldn't pay, so she blocked his car and summoned over a policeman.
The officer, who did not know about the attempted robbery, convinced Gladston Jr to withdraw money for the fare and escorted him back to the same Wells Fargo bank he had tried to rob.
The man was instantly recognised by several people there and was arrested at the bank. He has since been charged with attempted armed robbery.
