According to The Financial Times, Hannibal Gaddafi ordered his ship to include a 120-tonne shark tank surrounded with huge statues, marble pillars and gilded mirrors.
The tank would have contained two white, two sand tiger and two blacktip reef sharks. The creatures would have required four full-time marine biologists to care for them.
The vessel, which would also have been able to hold up to 3,500 guests, was supposedly commissioned after Hannibal grew frustrated at the waiting period for charting cruise liners.
The downfall of his father's regime, however, led to the project being incomplete. The ship has since been bought by MSC Cruises.
The cruise liner has had all additions removed and will now be sailing around the Greek Islands under the new name of Preziosa.
Hannibal, 32, is currently in hiding in Algeria with other members of the Gaddafi family.
