Residents of the town of Lubczyna were said to have been so disgruntled by a 24-year-old's driving escapades that they hoisted his car up a tree overnight to stop him from using it.
Zbigniew Filo woke up earlier this week to discover his white Ford Escort hanging in a willow tree.
A police spokesman said: "We received a call from a man saying his car was stuck in a tree, and that his neighbours had put it there.
"After inspecting the site we instructed him to remove it from the tree."
Local residents have refused to reveal who carried out the punishment, but stated that a villager had allowed their mobile crane to be used for the night.
A neighbour added: "Whoever, or whatever it was, it's probably a good thing as he was a dangerous driver and could have killed someone.
"Perhaps he'll think twice about his hair-raising driving and about getting a licence or who knows where his next car might end up?"
After the incident, Filo said: "I get the message, but I think it was a bit harsh."
