A super-cute squirrel enjoys the Diamond Jubilee - pictures

Lambasted for displacing the native red squirrel, the grey squirrel gets a terrible time from the UK media.

Despite that, this wee fella showed his patriotic spirit by celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee at a garden party on Monday (June 4).



The sciurus carolinensis is subjected to a hate campaign from much of the press, who prefer the supposedly prettier sciurus vulgaris.

Here at Digital Spy, we refuse to take sides. But we ask, how can you take against anything this cute?



At a Jubilee picnic in Portchester, Hampshire, this grey got stuck in to some leftover Queen-themed desserts to show his respect for Her Maj.

By all means protect the red squirrels, but let us not blame the poor greys for the consequences of Darwinian natural selection. Not when they look as wonderful as this one with cream on their whiskers.
