Brooke Wallace from Solomon put together a Western-style dress as well as a suit for her date using 42 rolls of duct tape. Her efforts have been rewarded with a place in a national design competition sponsored by Duck Tape.
The 17-year-old spent more than 200 hours working on the outfit.
Wallace also made matching accessories from duct tape, creating a purse and earrings for herself and a bolo tie, lariat, gun and holster for her date Mark Aylward.
The pair could win $5,000 (£3,200) for their school and a $5,000 scholarship for themselves if they were to win the competition.
The winners will be chosen by an online vote in July.
