A New York bus driver became a hero yesterday after he saved a 7-year-old girl's life.
Stephen St Bernard witnessed a girl dangling from a third-storey apartment window in Brooklyn yesterday (July 17), and decided to move into position in case she fell.
Kayla McCree - who is autistic - had climbed out of the window when her mother left her alone for a short moment.
McCree then lost her balance and fell three storeys, but St Bernard was able to catch her before she hit the ground.
"I just prayed that I'd catch her," he told The AP. "'Please let me catch her, please let me catch her'. That's all I could say."
The girl was uninjured in the fall - which was caught on camera by a neighbour across the street - but St Bernard suffered a torn tendon in his arm.
St Bernard is a father of four, and celebrated working for New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority for ten years this week.
