Burgers were flipped 1,350 times by 18 people in less than a minute on a pair of gas-fired barbecues at the Burger Flipping Championships today (August 16).
For a flip to be tallied by the official recorders, burger-flippers had to successfully turn a burger from one side to the other using only a spatula held in one hand.
Flips which resulted in the burger dropping to the floor were not counted.
Another world record set at the Food Network UK 'On Fire' festival event was the most burger flips by one person in under a minute, with 87 total flips.
The record set for the highest burger flip recorded was 5.5 feet.
Nick Thorogood, senior vice president of content and marketing for Food Network UK EMEA, said: "Barbeques are synonymous with summer and a perfect way to make the most of the current good weather.
"As we reach the peak of summer, we wanted to get Brits in the mood and hone their burger flipping techniques."
The Food Network On Fire Festival is free and held at the East Piazza of Covent Garden.
The festival will be open on Friday, August 17 from 1pm to 10pm, Saturday August 18 from 11am to 8.30pm and Sunday August 19 from 10am to 6pm.
