Paying no regard to the law, Wheel Clamp Man uses a battery-powered angle grinder to free illegally-parked motorists without charging a fee.
In return for his help, Wheel Clamp Man only asks for a donation to help the homeless.
"I'm taking an ethical stance," the unnamed man told Australia's The Sunday Times. "I'm helping people out. I don't feel I'm damaging property.
"The amount of money these companies make off innocent people is insane. Where does that money go? Not into car parks or safer streets. It goes into their pocket."
He added that he had once been clamped within minutes of leaving his vehicle at a car park, despite not seeing any signs.
A police spokesman disagreed that he is a hero: "He is committing the offence of criminal damage and if people have any info, they should contact Crime Stoppers and we will deal with him."
