It was reported on Sunday (August 26) that a "large cat" had been spotted at around 7pm, with members of the public advised to remain indoors.
Armed officers as well as a police helicopter were dispatched, but the search was called off yesterday (August 27), with a police spokesperson stating: "Nothing has been found to suggest that a lion was in the area."
However, Gill and Steve Atkin reportedly saw the 'lion' from afar, photographing and reporting the animal to police, according to BBC News.
Steve told police he saw "definitely a very large animal, and possibly a lion, definitely a large cat", continuing: "We witnessed it - I would say - for about 20 to 30 minutes cleaning itself and rolling about in the field."
Gill backed up her husband, adding: "I don't think it was a domestic cat.
"Whatever it was, it's definitely still out there."
