George Osborne booed at the Paralympics - video
Such worries have been blown out the water, with capacity crowds watching Team GB winning gold after gold. And now the 80,000-strong support at Stratford's Olympic Stadium have given viewers another reason to smile.
Like his Conservative playmates Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt, Osborne laughed off his Olympic mishap.
We think that the chancellor will be treading very carefully when it comes to matters regarding disability benefits, cuts and the role of Paralympic sponsor Atos in assessing those "fit for work".
Twitter wags were, of course, quick to enjoy a giggle at Osborne's expense.
"Why did 80,000 people boo George Osborne? Because that's the maximum capacity of the Olympic Stadium," said Kevin Mcveigh.
"George Osborne may like to believe that he was booed only by sections of the crowd but the truth is we're all in it together," added Dan Rebellato.
Labour councillor John McPartland took issue with one aspect of the jeering, saying: "The booing of George Osborne as he presented medals was a disgrace. It wasn't anywhere near loud enough."
