ABS-CBN News reports that the 'weddings' were to raise awareness of the environment and to the problem of soil erosion.
The earthworms, draped in a red cloth, arrived at the Takang Park, Tainan City, inside a traditional wedding sedan ready to "tie the knot" with the soil in the park.
Leader of the volunteer group who organised the ceremony Huang Sen-nan said: "The ceremony was implemented exactly according to traditional Taiwanese customs.
"We want to raise public awareness about the need to protect the land where we live."
The presence of earthworms in the soil of Taiwan helps to prevent soil erosion, which can contribute to landslides during typhoons.
